AOA Tuesday 6-13-2023

Tuesday's AOA began with Dale Durcholz of Grain Cycles with an update on the Illinois crop and how he's handling the marketing risks of this summer. In segment 2, Casey Seymour of Moving Iron LLC discussed the used and new machinery market and what farmers are seeing recently. Dr. Steve Meyer of Partners for Production Agriculture joined the show with a review of hog industry economics and a talk about why they are so ugly.

AOA Monday 6-12-2023

Monday's AOA began with Darin Newsom, Senior Analyst at Barchart, who noted Friday's WASDE report but is keeping an eye on other factors in the market. In segment 2, John Baranick of DTN Weather provided an update on the expansion of drought and dryness and looked ahead to the next several weeks over the corn belt. In segment 3, Peter Orwick, Executive Director of the American Sheep Industry Association discussed the impact of the past several years on the US sheep industry and the opportunities in the future.

AOA Friday 6-9-2023

Friday's AOA began with Kurt Kovarik, VP of Federal Affairs at Clean Fuels Alliance America who is preparing for next week's final EPA RFS requirements and working to remind the admin of the importance of biofuels. In segment 2, Mike Steenhoek of the Soy Transportation Coalition discussed a pending bill in the US House that could allow states to raise weight limits on interstates for trucks. Dr. Steve Meyer, from Partners for Production Agriculture, joined the show in segment 3 with an update on the slide in margins in the pork industry and how they're adapting. The show closed with Jim Bair, President and CEO of US Apple, who talked about their board's recent trip to the White House to discuss industry issues.

Thursday's AOA began with a look at the record run in cattle with Dennis Smith of Archer Financial Services. In segment 2, Peter Orwick, Executive Director of the American Sheep Industry Association discussed the recent moves in the sheep and wool industries, as well as what producers would like to see in the '23 Farm Bill. Josh Linville, VP of Fertilizer at Stone X joined the show in segment 3 with an update on the fertilizer market; and AOA closed with Todd Rokita, Attorney General for the state of Indiana on Right to Repair and the WOTUS decision from the Supreme Court.

AOA Wednesday 6/7/2023

On Wednesday's AOA, Kent Bacus, NCBA Executive Director of Government Affairs, spoke about the USDA efforts to allow importation of beef from Paraguay. In segment 2, it was the Monthly Grind with our friends from the National Corn Growers Association discussing the partnerships with the US Meat Export Federation - Wendy Osborn from Ohio Corn joined the show along with Ralph Lents, Executive Committee member with USMEF. In segment 3, Arlan Suderman, Chief Commodities Economist with StoneX looked ahead to Friday's WASDE report, and the show closed with Matt Herrick, SVP of Communications and Public Policy with the International Dairy Foods Association on the new Whole Milk for Healthy Kids act, which would put whole milk back in schools.

Tuesday's AOA began with Jim McCormick of AgMarket.net, who had been analyzing the impact to the wheat market of the dam explosion in Ukraine. In segment 2, Ryan LeGrand, President and CEO of the US Grains Council discussed the formal dispute settlement process with Mexico over their import of GMO white corn. In segment 3, Dr. Paul Sundberg of the Swine Health Information Center joined with a look at domestic and international herd health concens.

As the U.S. House and Senate agriculture committees continue drafting the next farm bill, get an update on progress and challenges affecting passage before the current farm bill expires.

In segment 2, John Baranick of DTN Weather looked at the expanding dryness across the nothern corn belt and contrasted that with the rains in the TX and OK panhandles. In segment 3, Bill Hoagland, Senior Vice President at the Bipartisan Policy Center talked about what did and what did not make it in to the final debt ceiling deal.

Friday's AOA began with DuWayne Bosse of Bolt Marketing, who had been watching the cattle market tear higher all day Thursday and he shared his take on where it could go from here. In Segment 2, Jacqui Fatka, Associate Editor at Agri-Pulse provided an update on the USDA's recent decision on the FMMO modernization petition, and how the farm bill could be impacted by the debt ceiling negotiations. We closed Friday's show with Greg Soulje, Meteorologist at This Week in Agribusiness who outlined some weather risk for the eastern corn belt over the next 10-15 days.

Thursday's AOA began by celebrating June Dairy Month with Ben Laine, Dairy Analyst at Terrain. In segment 2, Samantha Levy, Conservation and Climate Policy Manager at American Farmland Trust discussed the growth in solar on farms and the principles they'd like to see adopted to guide growth. Bill Hoagland, Senior Vice President with the Bipartisan Policy Center joined the show next to talk through the details of the new debt ceiling deal and we closed the show with Chris Robinson, Robinson Ag Marketing on the bullish turn in today's grain markets.
