AOA Monday 5-8-2023

AOA kicked the week off with Darin Newsom, Senior Analyst at Barchart, who discussed the May turnaround in the wheat market. In segment 2, John Baranick of DTN Weather joined the show with a look at the forecast for the week ahead. Luke Lindberg, President and CEO of South Dakota Trade joined the show from Kenya to discuss the ongoing free trade negotiations with that country. The show closed with Eileen Urish, Trade and Export Manager with the Illinois Soybean Association about their recent conversation with the Ministry of Trade from Indonesia.

Friday's AOA kicked off with Pedro Dejneka, Founder and Partner at MD Commodities who had an update on the soybean bounce and a look at Brazil's future growth. Christy Seyfert, Executive Director of Government Affairs at the American Soybean Association discussed their push for stable crop insurance in the 2023 Farm Bill. Dr. Paul Sundberg, Exec Director of the Swine Health Information Center spoke in segment 3 about the spread of PRRS in the US and how the global spread of ASF remains a concern into this new year

AOA - May 4th, 2023

Thursday's AOA began with Economist Matt Clark of Terrain to discuss the health of the rural economy more broadly as summer 2023 approaches. Alan Bjerga, SVP of Communications at the National Milk Producers Federation next explained the dairy industries goal by updating the Federal Milk Marketing Orders for the first time in over 20 years. Dr. Jim Mintert, Director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture at Purdue University joined us for an update on the Ag Economy Barometer. Dennis Smith of Archer Financial Services closed out the show with a look at the pullback in the cattle industry.

On Wednesday, AOA kicked off with Chris Robinson of Robinson Ag Marketing. He's been watching the weakness develop in the grain trade but reminds us that the growing season is long. In segment 2, Sarah McKay of the National Corn Growers Association joined the show for the Monthly Grind and a discussion of new market development for corn. Tom Vartanian, Executive Director of the Financial Technology and Cybersecurity Center and attorney discussed his concerns with the Fed's regulatory apparatus and how it could be improved.

Tuesday's AOA kicked off with Garrett Toay of Ag Trader Talk with a discussion of the global factors impacting the wheat and soy markets. In segment 2, Ethan Lane, VP of Government Affairs at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, talked about the recent work of 300+ cattle producers on Capitol Hill last week. Lance Zimmerman, Senior Analyst for Cattle and Beef markets at RaboResearch joined ths show in segment 3 with an update on the fundamental factors moving the cattle market.

Monday's AOA kicked off with Jacob Burks, Hedge Strategist with AgMaket.Net who has been watching for rising temperatures to kick planting into high gear. In segment 2, Meteorologist John Baranick of DTN Weather highlighted the weather opportunities coming this week for growers across the plains. In segment 3, John Hulsman, geopolitical strategist and host of the Around the World in 20 Minutes Podcast discussed the ongoing global unrest and it's impact on global markets; and the show closed with Troy Bredenkamp, SVP Government and Public Policy with the Renewable Fuels Association, who had an update on the emergency E15 waiver granted by the Biden Administration on Friday.

On Friday's AOA, Jesse Allen sat in for Mike Pearson to round out the week. In Segment One, we talk about the markets, the big downturn this week, basis and more with Kristi Van Ahn-Kjeseth of Van Ahn & Company. In Segment Two, the market discussion expands as we look at the bigger picture and discuss the global outlook along with farm input costs. Stephen Nicholson, Global Sector Strategist for Grains & Oilseeds at Rabobank joins the show. In Segment Three, we learn about Tyson Foods' Climate Smart Beef Program with Dr. Justin Ransom, Sr. Director, Sustainable Food Strategy at Tyson Foods and Chad Martin, VP of Cattle Procurement at Tyson Fresh Meats. And finally in Segment Four, we talk about alfalfa production and management with Curtis Rainbolt, Technical Service Rep, BASF Agricultural Solutions.

 

 

AOA Thursday 4-27-2023

Thursday's AOA kicked off with Dr. Matt Roberts, Senior Grain and Oilseeds Analyst with Terrain discussing the pullback in commodity markets and the potential shakeup in planted acres coming later this summer. Chandler Goule, CEO of the National Association of Wheat Growers discussed the impact of rain for the winter wheat areas and discussed their testimony to the House Subcommittee on ag markets. The show ended with Scott Hays, President of the National Pork Producers Council, who has been pressing the case for animal disease prevention and protection in the 2023 Farm Bill.
