AOA Friday 4-7-2023

Friday was a commodity market holiday in recognition of Good Friday ahead of Easter. With the markets closed, AOA gave our guests the day off and we revisited previous interviews beginning with Marcia Bunger, Administrator of USDA's RMA about new changes to Margin Protection. Justin Tupper, President of the US Cattlemen's Association spoke about their recent work in DC in segment 2, and in segment 3, Anne Balcer, Head of Government Affairs at Independent Community Bankers of America and Gus Barker, President and CEO of First Community Bank discussed the health of community and rural banks. Paul Burke, head of the Soy Excellence Centers from the US Soybean Export Council and how they're adding value for US soy.

 

AOA Thursday 4-6-2023

On Thursday's AOA, Jim McCormick of AgMarket.net kicked the show off looking at the breakdown in the soybean futures ahead of the three day weekend. In segment 2, Brian Jennings, CEO of the American Coalition for Ethanol provided an update from their Washington DC Fly In to advocate for biofuel access. Patrick Surfass, Executive Director of the American Biogas Council joined the show next for an update on that industry's response to the EPA Renewable Fuel Standard requirements. 

AOA Wednesday 4-5-2023

Wednesday's AOA kicked off with Dr. Chad Hart, Extension Economist with Iowa State University to discuss Argentina's reintroduction of their 'soy dollar' to move more ag exports. In segment 2, Denny Vennekotter, Vice Chair of the Market Development Action Team at National Corn Growers Association, and Sarah McKay, Director of Market Development with NCGA joined the show for The Monthly Grind, looking at the Circular Bioeconomy and corn's place in it. In segment 3, Dr. Pat Westhoff, Director of the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute looked at their recent 10 year baseline ag economy projections. And the show closed with Dennis Smith, Archer Financial Services with an analysis of the recent Hogs and Pigs Report from USDA

AOA Tuesday 4-4-2023

Tuesday's AOA kicked off with Garrett Toay, of Ag Trader Talk, with an update on the winter wheat quality and a look at the grain markets in the week ahead. In segment 2. Josh Baethge, Policy Editor at Farm Progress spoke about the contentious SNAP hearings on Capitol Hill last week. Sigrid Johannes, Director of the Public Lands Council, joined the show in segment 3 with some concerns about the new proposed rule from the Bureau of Land Management.

 

AOA Monday 4-3-2023

Monday's AOA kicked off the month of April with Darin Newsom, Senior Analyst at Barchart, who had been digging into the crude oil markets following OPEC's announcement of supply cuts. In segment 2, John Baranick of DTN Weather spoke about the severe weather outbreak last week and the risks in the forecast ahead. Arlan Suderman, Chief Commodities Economist with StoneX, joined the show in the third segment with a look at a pair of reports from the USDA on Friday.

AOA Friday 3-31-2023

AOA closed the week by discussing some big changes in Margin Protection insurance from the USDA Risk Management Administration with Marcia Bunger, RMA Administrator. In segment 2, Dr. Derrell Peel, Agribusiness Professor at Oklahoma State University discussed the changing economics in the feedlot and on the ranch. Banking issues were the focus in segment 3, with Anne Balcer, Senior Executive Vice President with the Independent Community Bankers of America and Gus Barker, President and CEO of First Community Bank in Newell, Iowa. The show closed with Norita Taylor, Director of Public Affairs for the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, who are pushing for the passage of the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act.

AOA Thursday 3-30-2023

Thursday's AoA began with Chris Robinson, Robinson Ag Marketing, who looked ahead to tomorrow's USDA reports and his thoughts on market action. Justin Tupper, President of US Cattlemen's Association joined the show in Segment 2 for an update on the Senate WOTUS repeal vote. Jesse Allen, Farm and Ranch Director with American Ag Network and host of Market Talk looked ahead to analysts expectations of planted acres. In segment 4, Attorney Jeff McCoy of the Pacific Legal Foundation discussed his recent case at the supreme court and how it opens up new recourse for landowners.

AOA Wednesday 3-29-2023

On Wednesday's AOA, Ty Higgins, Sr Director of Communications with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation provided an update on their member's response to the train derailment in East Palestine, OH. Arlan Suderman joined the show in segment 3 to discuss his expectations for Friday's USDA reports and the recent Chinese corn purchases. The show closed with Dean Nelson of Kelley Bean with an update on the dry bean market and what he expects to see for acreage in this upcoming year.

Tuesday's AoA began with a rundown of several headlines moving the ag industry, before Kent Bacus, Executive Director of Government Affairs at NCBA spoke about the potential of Paraguan beef imports back into the United States. Joe Scheule, VP of Communications at the US Meat Export Federation joined the show in segment 3 with a discussion of pork import tariffs in the Philippines and we closed with Paul Burke, Executive Director of USSEC's Soy Excellence Centers, who provided an update on the Soy Value Chain Innovation Center in China.
